British police hunt man after murder of BBC commentator’s wife and daughters

LONDON (AP) — British police were searching Wednesday for a man suspected of carrying a crossbow after three women were killed in a house near London. The BBC said the victims were relatives of its chief radio commentator, John Hunt.

Hertfordshire Police said they were looking for Kyle Clifford, 26, on suspicion of the triple murder.

Police said the three women, aged 25, 28 and 61, were found with serious injuries at a house in Bushey, north-west London, on Tuesday evening. Police and ambulance crews tried to save them but they were pronounced dead at the scene.

BBC Radio 5 Live reported that the victims were Carol Hunt, the commentator’s wife, and two of her daughters.

John Hunt is the BBC’s chief horse racing commentator, and his voice is known to millions from his coverage of the world-famous Grand National and Derby events. British media reported that he found the bodies on Tuesday evening after returning home from reporting from Lingfield Park racecourse south of London.

Herfordshire Police Chief Superintendent Jon Simpson said a crossbow and other weapons were used in the incident.

“The search involves armed police and specialist investigation teams who are responding rapidly to what has been a horrific incident,” Simpson said.

Police did not say whether Clifford, who is from London, had any relationship with the women.

Clifford may be armed, and members of the public have been warned to avoid approaching him.
