Brazil’s women between violence and departure

Luxembourgish and European film premieres, panels, conferences and a transmedia project as well as a VR production are attracting attention to the Brazilian film festival this year. The eighth edition, organized by the non-profit association Cultura Brasileira em Luxemburgo, will take place from April 17th to 21st in Luxembourg City, Bettembourg and Dudelange and invites visitors on a cinematic journey to Brazil.

This year’s focus: women in Brazil. Accordingly, the festival will open with Dandara Ferreira’s “Meu nome é Gal” in the presence of the director – a dramatic biopic of the Brazilian singer and composer Gal Costa. One of the highlights is the Brazilian Day in Dudelange on April 20th. Not only Hugo Prata’s “Angela” about the Brazilian celebrity Ângela Diniz, who was killed by her lover, is shown here. There will also be a conference on Brazilian cinema since 1990 as well as a panel discussion about women in Brazil, the film world and women with a migrant background.

The VR production “Na pele” and the transmedia project “A colônia luxemburguesa” created as part of Esch2022 can also be seen on the Brazilian day in Dudelange. The animated film “Chef Jack”, which will be shown on April 21st, is suitable for children and young people. Other films on the program include Eliza Capai’s documentary “Incompatível com a vida” and Klaudia Kemper’s “traer la Voz”.
