Digital Aviation, Sp.- The macaúba, a plant native to the Brazilian Cerrado, is establishing itself as a revolutionary raw material for aviation biofuelswith an investment of 2.5 billion dollars for its large-scale production in Brazil.
A commitment to sustainability
The multinational Acelen Renewablesannounced the millionaire investment recently United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) from Dubai. The goal is to create sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 80% compared to those of fossil origin traditionally used for air transport.
Potential of the macaúba
The macaúba, with its high production yield per hectare, efficiency in the use of water and nutrients and its ability to be cultivated in different ecosystems, is fundamental in this project. Brazil seeks to become a world leader in renewable energy, exploiting its vast potential in solar and wind energy and now with the biofuel macaúba.
The project includes the production of 1,000 million liters of diesel per year renewable for various derivatives and sustainable aviation fuel, with production starting in the second half of 2026.
He the economic and social impact is estimated in total at 17 billion dollars circulating in the Brazilian economy until 2035, and the creation of 90,000 jobs thanks to the project. Furthermore, it is expected that the production of the renewable fuel will initially be directed to the international market.
This project does not only represent a progress in the field of biofuelsbut it also promotes recovery of degraded land, creation of agro-industrial centers with macaúba cultivation in 200,000 hectares of forests in the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais.
The macaúba is a sustainable alternative which promises a significant impact on both the aviation industry and the socioeconomic development of Brazil.
