According to the Federal Traffic Police (PRF), heavy rain flooded the highway and slowed down traffic in the area. Via 040, the concessionaire that manages the road, reported that the Rio de Janeiro direction of the highway was completely closed between the Miguelão and Alphaville condominiums, with a delay of 5 km.
The report contacted Vallourec, as rumors suggested the flooding could have been caused by a breach in the Pau Branco mine dam. The mining company denied any relationship with the operation of the facility, which is located in Nova Lima.
