BPOM Finds 51 Thousand Dangerous Cosmetic Products in Indonesia

JAKARTA – The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has found 51,791 products cosmetics dangerous after carrying out surveillance at 731 beauty clinics throughout Indonesia.

There are five types of cosmetic violations at beauty clinics that do not meet the requirements, such as cosmetics containing dangerous or prohibited ingredients, skincare with a blue label that does not comply with regulations, cosmetics without a distribution permit, beauty injection products, and expired cosmetics.

Deputy for Supervision of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements and Cosmetics at BPOM RI, Mohamad Kasuri, explained that the tens of thousands of products found must be destroyed so they no longer circulate.

“Every time we find surveillance results, we immediately destroy the product. “We ask business actors to destroy it, so that it no longer circulates,” he said in the BPOM Media Briefing at the BPOM Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Hall, Wednesday (3/4/3034).

Not only that, BPOM also provides warnings or administrative sanctions for beauty clinics that are still making and distributing these illegal and dangerous products.

As is the case with the withdrawal of products from the market and other distribution networks that collaborate with the beauty clinic. Apart from that, this violation caused BPOM to revoke the distribution permit for the product.

“If this cosmetic has a distribution permit, we will definitely revoke the distribution permit. “This is a measure of our administrative sanctions,” explained Mohamad Kasuri.

Mohamad Kasuri stated that not only were sanctions given, but every clinic had also been given guidance again. If the violations continue and BPOM guidance is not heeded, the beauty clinic could also be prosecuted criminally.

“Of course with this warning, we are also equipped with coaching efforts, so that they can try even better. “Well, of course, if this violation is repeated, several business actors could also be prosecuted criminally,” he said.

Furthermore, not only offline supervision, BPOM also provides online supervision by carrying out cyber patrols. The five violations are also sold online in e-commerce.

“So, we are closing take downs on links that sell the same five types of cosmetics. “During the intensification of supervision, we took down more than 108 thousand links so that we would not carry out the same activities again,” said Mohamad Kasuri.
