ASSUMPTION- The General Directorate of Migration is preparing a special operation for the entry of Argentine and Brazilian fans who will arrive in the country for the final of the Copa Sudamericana, to be played this Saturday in Asunción. The director of the institution, Jorge Kronawetter, announced that the scheme will replicate the model applied last year, when the country also hosted the continental event.
In an interview with the program “This is how things are,” broadcast by Universo 970 AM–Nación Media and channel GEN, Kronawetter explained that planning began since it was confirmed that Paraguay would once again host the final. “Since the announcement that this meeting would return to the country, we implemented all the necessary measures to expedite and ensure border transit,” he stated.

“The idea is to replicate the performance we had last year. We believe it will be a successful event like the previous ones that took place in the country.”

The main point of reinforcement will be the Falcón–Clorinda border crossing, where representatives of both countries have already held coordination meetings. Authorities from Immigration, Customs, National Police, Paraguayan Navy, Argentine Gendarmerie, as well as consular and Foreign Ministry areas participated.
Kronawetter pointed out that the operation includes a “refresh” of the scheme used in 2023, with adjustments in programming and planning. “We want to review and improve what we did last year. We believe it will be a successful event like the previous ones,” he said.
Expected income and fan distribution
The authorities handle preliminary data on the mobilization of fans. From Argentina it was reported on the number of buses of organized fans that will cross the border, in addition to the 10,000 tickets sold in that country. However, this figure does not represent all visitors, since many arrive without the intention of entering the stadium.
To organize the flow, the organization will re-enable concentration spaces:
-Costanera Sur, for Brazilian fans.
-Costanera Norte, for Argentines.
Fan control with background
One of the axes of the operation will be the non-admission of people with restrictions to attend sporting events, as reported by Kronawetter. For years, Paraguay and Argentina have shared a list of sanctioned fans, who cannot enter stadiums for security reasons.
“We warn the clubs that these people will not be admitted into the country. It is a legal and necessary measure to guarantee the safe development of the event,” he said. The same procedure will be replicated with Brazil, in coordination with the Federal Police.
