Bonfires in The Hague and Scheveningen moved forward by a day due to strong winds | Domestic

Bonfires in Scheveningen, Duindorp and the Laak district of The Hague will be lit on Saturday evening and not on New Year’s Eve as planned. The wind is expected to blow too hard on New Year’s Eve.

The KNMI predicts wind strengths of six to seven in The Hague before New Year’s Eve. “This wind force exceeds the limits agreed in advance in the permit,” the municipality says.

This is why the stacks are already lit on Saturday evening at 7.00 pm. Not too strong winds are expected on Saturday evening. “Therefore, bonfires can be lit safely this evening,” the municipality said.

Mayor Jan van Zanen informed the builders of the decision. Last year too, the fires were lit a day early due to strong winds.

Whether fireworks will be set off during the countdown at Hof Vijfer will be decided on New Year’s Eve. If the fireworks are cancelled, there will be a light and laser show with music at that time.
