Bolu Municipality Will Impose Penalty on Cigarette Butts

Turkish Anti-Smoking Association Chairman Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın announced that they welcomed with great pleasure the Bolu Municipality’s decision to impose fines on those who throw cigarette butts on the ground. He emphasized that this step was an important development in reducing the environmental impact of cigarette consumption and protecting public health.

Emphasizing that important steps have been taken in recent years to deter smoking, but the desired results have not yet been achieved, Turkish Anti-Smoking Association General President Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın stated that this practice initiated by Bolu Municipality is an appropriate practice. Prof. Dr. Aydın said, “This new decision taken by Bolu Municipality regarding cigarette butts will not only make the city cleaner, but will also contribute to society becoming more conscious about smoking.”

“Harmful chemicals found in cigarette butts negatively affect our ecosystem”

Prof. Dr. Aydın, who stated that leaving cigarette butts in the environment poses a major problem in terms of both aesthetics and health, said, “We know that the effects of cigarettes on ecological life are dangerous. Our soil and water suffer the greatest damage. Harmful chemicals found in cigarette butts mix with rainwater and soil, negatively affecting our ecosystem,” and pointed out that cigarettes cause many environmental problems, and drew attention to the fact that such measures taken by the Bolu Municipality are an important incentive element that can change smoking habits in society.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın said, “We frequently emphasize the effects of smoking not only on our health but also on our environment. This step taken by Bolu Municipality reminds smokers that they must fulfill their responsibilities towards the environment. Such practices reveal the harms of smoking while also protecting the general health of society. As the Turkish Anti-Smoking Association, we support this initiative of Bolu Municipality and hope that other cities will adopt similar practices. The fight against smoking can only be successful if all segments of society act consciously and in cooperation,” and underlined the need for cooperation in the fight against smoking.

Prof. Dr. Aydın finally said, “It should be the duty of all of us to leave a clean nature to our children and youth, who are the guarantors of our bright future. As the Turkish Anti-Smoking Association, we have been fighting for this for years. Both explaining the harm that smoking causes to human health and the sensitivity and sensitivity we show towards environmental problems are important indicators of this. We call on our society to support our struggle until the last molecule of cigarettes disappears, with the awareness of leaving a clean world to future generations.” – ISTANBUL
