Bollywood is India’s largest and one of the world’s film industries. Most of the films that have contributed to this fame are rom-coms. Simply put, Bollywood has spread across the subcontinent on the back of love and family films. But the picture of love, love and humor that is known forever can hardly be seen now. But is the rom-com movie lost? Is the romance of Hindi cinema dead? Let’s find out the explanation of some people related to Bollywood…
The timeless song Tujhe Dekha To Yeh Jana Sanam rings out in the mind of moviegoers when they see a yellow mustard khet. It is as if Rahul is standing there playing love on the mandolin. And Simran is running to his call. Many such characters, songs, stories are embedded in the minds of Bollywood lovers. The songs and stories of love, overcoming hundreds of obstacles to get loved ones. From ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ to ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, ‘Kaho Na Payar Hai’ or last decade’s ‘Aashiqui 2’; Love has always enriched the Mumbai industry.

But in the movie of that industry, love is almost wiped out! Larger than life movie all around.
Commenting on the matter, box office analyst and producer Girish Johar said, “In the past, the scope of entertainment was limited. The only way was cinema. Then television and now OTT became the important medium. As a result, 70mm (cinema format) is now associated with larger than life. Audiences have dominated action films since the canvas grew. ‘Paathan’, ‘Gaadar 2’, ‘Jaawan’ or ‘Animal’ are all action films.”
Citing the examples of ‘Tu Jhuti Main Makkar’, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, Girish Johar said that some romantic films have also done well at the box office. But the audience basically wants to see something different now.

He commented, ‘Many say, since the pandemic, rom-coms have not been loved by the audience. I refuse to accept it. Look, a good film will find its audience anyway. It is only necessary to make a good picture, the audience will see it. Viewers are eager to see all types of images. But we are stuck in the wrong idea of action.’
The idea that romantic films don’t have an audience—is even shakier when looking at other industries. Such as ‘Sita Ramam’, ‘Hai Nanna’ or various South Korean serials which have been successful in the Indian South industry recently; Just a great presence of love. Where is the deficiency of Bollywood?
Taran Adarsh explained, ‘We are deficient in many aspects. We cannot trust our own work. Studios offer different terms. This was not the case before. I started my career in the seventies, from Raj Kapoor to Manmohan Desai or Prakash Mehra, the filmmakers basically worked with conditions. Investors never say what to build. They didn’t even bother with casting. They just kept their place. But nowadays the maker is completely dependent on the producer. The producer is paying and the whole thing is business!’

Because there are some amazing things to add to it. But the movie business is actually cyclical. Whenever a romantic film does business, producers will start investing again in this genre and our writers will also be interested in writing such stories.’
It is difficult to say now whether the tide of romantic films will come again on Bollywood screens. However, Girish-Tarana is not giving up hope. The new film ‘Teri Bato Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ was released on Friday (February 9). Many are looking forward to the success of this romantic-comedy film starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.
