A tragic accident on the route that Boca Juniors will take to reach Potosí, where they will face Nacional on Wednesday, has left four fatalities and 36 people injured. The incident, caused by a lane invasion, occurred on Sunday night and involved a bus and a van in the vicinity of Yotala. As a result of the crash, the bus fell down a ravine at high speed, requiring the intervention of security forces and firefighters to rescue the victims.
Once the rescue efforts were completed, local authorities reported on the four deceased people, including Teresa Villegas (65 years old), Lourdes Villca (28 years old), Luciana Gutiérrez (6 years old) and the bus driver, Roberto Ramos Paco (37 years old). In addition, 36 passengers suffered significant injuries and were taken to hospitals. The driver responsible for the accident was arrested and will face charges for lane invasion.
Regarding Boca Juniors’ trip to Potosí, due to the lack of hotel infrastructure and airports in the city, the team will take a flight to Sucre on Tuesday, April 2 from Buenos Aires. They will spend the day and night in Sucre, located 2,400 meters above sea level, to acclimatize before Wednesday’s game.
On Wednesday morning, the team, along with the coaching staff and managers, will embark on a trip in 4×4 trucks to Potosí, a 150-kilometer journey through mountain roads. For logistical reasons, 12 vehicles will be used to transport the nearly 60 people that make up the Boca Juniors delegation, who will be present at the Víctor Agustín Ugarte Stadium.
After the game, the team will return at dawn via the same route and return to Argentina on Thursday by plane. During the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana, Boca Juniors will also make trips to Brazil to face Fortaleza on April 25 and Paraguay to play Trinidense on May 8.
