BNM chief Naseem Baloch condemns targeted killings of Baloch intellectuals in Pakistan

Balochistan: Baloch National Movement (BNM) President Dr Naseem Baloch has strongly condemned the deliberate targeting of Baloch researchers, teachers and intellectuals. “These attacks are part of a well-planned strategy to suppress the intellectual foundation of the Baloch nation,” he said in a statement, The Balochistan Post (TBP) reported. TBP further reported that Dr Naseem had mentioned a recent incident in Ketch, when alleged Pakistani military proxies murdered PhD researcher and education advocate Allah Dad Baloch in broad daylight. There was widespread protest against the killing by both the Baloch community and the victim’s family. He claimed that the attempt to assassinate Ustad Sharif Zakir has added a new chapter to the ongoing conflict. Zakir has already experienced his son and cousin being forcibly abducted by security personnel. According to TBP, Dr Naseem said, “These are not isolated incidents, but part of an organized campaign targeting Baloch scholars, teachers and intellectuals. Professor Saba Dashtiari, Professor Abdul Razzaq, Zahid Askani, Ustad Ali Jan, Master Nazir and many others have already become victims of state harassment.”
TBP further reported that Dr. Naseem emphasized that the murder of Allah Dad Baloch and the attack on Ustad Sharif Zakir are not isolated violent incidents, but part of a larger campaign to silence informed voices supporting freedom and justice. He claimed that in order to spread terror and suppress opposition, Pakistan’s military-backed agents are systematically eliminating Baloch intellectuals.
He further said that the policy of targeting Baloch teachers and scholars is a direct attack on the intellectual and cultural fabric of Balochistan. He said, “Its aim is to cripple the Baloch society academically and intellectually, to ensure that future generations remain deprived of education, awareness and national identity,” as quoted by TBP.
Dr. Naseem lamented the lack of international action and criticized human rights organizations and the United Nations for their lack of response. “Pakistan sees this silence as a green signal to intensify its oppression. The indifference of the international community has emboldened a state that continues to commit crimes against humanity,” he said, as quoted by TBP.
TBP further stated that BNM calls for an immediate, open and impartial international investigation in response to these attacks and the widespread brutality carried out by the state in Balochistan. (ANI)
