The US is poised to take new measures and impose sanctions against China over its alleged support for Russia during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced this at a press conference held in Beijing.
“We have already imposed sanctions, export controls, etc. on more than 100 Chinese legal entities by the US. And we are fully ready to act, to take new measures. I made it clear in today’s meetings,” RIA Novosti quoted Blinken as saying.
In turn, at the meeting with Anthony Blinken, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that Beijing and Washington have the right to independently choose their friends and partners.
“Both sides can have their friends and partners, there is no need to target, oppose and harm each other,” Xi Jinping was quoted as saying by China Central Television.
Earlier, Agence France-Presse, quoting a representative of the US State Department, reported that Secretary of State Blinken, in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, expressed concern about China’s alleged support to Russia.
Blinken is on a three-day visit to China from April 24.
