Adnan Hussain, a visually impaired person from Hotise, Mardan, works as a telephone supervisor at Bacha Khan Medical College and has memorized more than 5,000 telephone and mobile phone numbers.
35-year-old Adnan Hussain told Independent Urdu: ‘I was healthy at birth but when I turned seven years old, my sight suddenly went away. After becoming blind, I stopped walking much for fear of falling, which also led to foot pain, which has now worsened and is now very difficult to walk.’
He said that he has four sisters and three brothers including them. His elder brother is fine while his other brother is blind and is doing a government job in the police department. Adnan also has three children and his two daughters and one son are completely healthy.
Adnan Hussain said: ‘I have memorized more than five thousand telephone and mobile numbers and I do not face any difficulty in dialing numbers from the telephone set and mobile phone.’
He said that it takes no time for him to remember the telephone number and after hearing it once, it is automatically stored in his mind.
Adnan explains that he also uses WhatsApp because it is very difficult to survive these days, and he also uses Facebook and YouTube. He also has a channel on YouTube called ‘Wada News’.

Adnan said: ‘Since 2009, I have been working in Bacha Khan Medical College under the disabled quota in grade eight. Fortunately, I have got my share from the two percent quota, but the government is requested to implement the two percent quota for the disabled during recruitment in all the government departments because many of our disabled colleagues are unemployed.
He said that he studied up to BA, but could not continue further after getting a job and getting married, but now plans to do Masters.
According to Adnan: ‘In Mardan district, special education complex only provides education up to the fifth grade, there is a need for a high school and a college, while there is a dire need for a braille teacher for the blind.’
He said that in our society even parents do not pay attention to the education of disabled children while people look down on such people.
Adnan wishes to build a computer center for the blind, where such people can be given modern education.
How do you commute to work?
On this question, Adnan said that he comes early in the morning with a colleague from his office on a motorcycle, but when he is on holiday, he comes by public transport.
He said: ‘I’m not disappointed. Allah has given me a lot. Everything is possible in life, provided that man himself tries.’
