Blessin has full confidence in the Union, even without national teams: “Enough quality to adapt”

A six-day training camp. Alexander Blessin no longer needs to prepare his group for the second part of the season. The Union coach looks to the future with confidence, even without the participants in the Asian and African Cup. And he enchants with a little word of Dutch.

Tomorrow the ball will roll for the first time in the Africa Cup of Nations. Tonight Qatar opens the football tournament in Asia. For Union, this means seeing strongmen Lazare, Amoura and Machida at work in their national team jersey.

Yet Alexander Blessin is not worried about the next matches. For this he credits his philosophy.

“I have no doubts about my core,” T1 shrugs. “I have rotated a lot since the beginning of the season and opted for freshness.”

“I can compensate for the loss of Lazare in midfield, even without Amoura we have already won games this season. We will adapt our game now that we can no longer rely on his speed.”

So the bottom line is, “I’ll never say we won’t miss them, but we have enough quality to adapt.”

Thriving group dynamics

Well, let’s move on to the players that Blessin has available. The leader of the Jupiler Pro League opts for a short internship in Algorfa, Spain.

“We needed a short break. Now I’m happy that I had six days to translate everything from my head to the training field. The conditions here are perfect.”

First, players were given a week off to recharge their batteries. “It was important, so the joy was even greater when we reunited again,” smiles Blessin.

“Here I can talk to my players a little more. Here everything runs more smoothly. Everyone feels like an important part of the group.”

If we become champions like we did in Antwerp last year, I will tear everything apart in the sprint while celebrating.

Alexander Benediction

Still in the running for the title and Cup. So questions about it are obviously inevitable. The Brussels team does not hide the fact that it wants to win a trophy.

“As a sportsman, I want nothing more than to win titles. Football is about success. In the short term, that means winning every match, if that translates into a trophy – fantastic!”

“Even though I think the title is too far away to talk about,” Blessin eases the pressure. “There are many good teams”

“Is it fun for you to see it, is it really… “exciting”?”, he charms with a word in Dutch. Furthermore, she solemnly promises to go crazy if Union manages to win the title this year.

“If we become champions like we did in Antwerp last year, I will do everything in the sprint to celebrate. Until then we will fight for it.”

First we have an important match with Anderlecht in the Croky Cup.
