Black Rice Production Area Expanded in Çilimli

The production area of ​​black rice, which has good yields, was expanded in Çilimli district of Düzce. It is aimed to brand black rice, known as a source of iron, fiber and minerals, in Çilimli.

Çilimli Municipality had initiated a project in recent years to popularize the cultivation of black rice with high nutritional value. The production of black rice, which was planted on 5 decares of land 3 years ago for trial purposes, has grown exponentially every year. Black rice, which was planted on 120 decares of land last year and gave the farmers the desired yield, will be planted on 360 decares of land this year.

Farmer Necmettin Kavak pointed out that he was introduced to black rice last year and said, “It was the recommendation of our Çilimli Mayor. We planted it last year and were satisfied with its yield. We are satisfied both in terms of health and cost. This year, we increased the planting by 3 times compared to last year. More in the coming years.” “I believe it will also increase, as long as our municipality stands behind us, production will improve further,” he said.

“Çilimli will be branded with black rice”

Stating that the project that will popularize the cultivation of black rice was implemented 3 years ago, Çilimli Mayor Yılmaz Yıldız said, “We started planting black rice in a small garden 3 years ago. The following year, as Çilimli Municipality, we tried it ourselves. In the third year, we showed this product to our farmers. Last year, in a 120 decare garden. We experimented with our farmers. When both the farmers and our municipality were satisfied, we planned to increase the cultivation further. We also found the market for it. We started to offer it to our citizens in our kitchen. “There has been an increase in the number of farmers compared to last year. Our farmers earn more because we support them. Our goal is to plant more areas and make Çilimli a brand in black rice,” he said. – DUZCE
