Switzerland’s Lena Hecki-Gross earned her first World Cup stage win on Friday, shooting all 20 targets and finishing in 36 minutes, 49 seconds. Her best result so far was second place in the Hochfilzen Pursuit this season.
The second with two shooting errors was the Frenchwoman Gillia Simon, who was 20.2 seconds behind, and the third was another Frenchwoman, Lou Jeanmont, who lost 31.4 seconds to the winner with 19 targets shot .
Fourth place was taken by German Vanessa Voigt, fifth by Norwegian Jūni Arnekleiva, and sixth by another Norwegian biathlete, Karulīne Ofigstad Knoten.
Sanita Buliņa missed the target with the first two shots, missed a target on the next two shots, but left the last firing line with two unhit targets. She took 83rd place, losing eight minutes and 3.5 seconds to Heki-Gross.
Sandra Buliņa ranked 90th out of 98 biathletes. She started with three fouls on the floor, was accurate in the scoreboard and earned two more 45-second penalties in the second position on the floor. In the last set shot there was still an open goal and Buliņa reached the finish line eight minutes and 50.3 seconds behind the Swiss biathlete.
Bendika committed four fouls on the first two shooting lanes, adding two more fouls on his other two shooting opportunities, earning nine penalty minutes for 12 fouls on 20 shots. With the eleventh fastest time in skiing, she finished just behind Sandra Buliņa, losing eight minutes and 56.5 seconds to the winner.
Last season, at the stages of the World Cup, three individual distance races were held, but all of them were classic: 15 kilometers in length. Bendika competed in two of them, finishing 44th in Kontiolahti and 75th in Östersund. Bendika did not start in the first 15 kilometer race of this season in Esteshund.

The athletes competed in the shortened individual distance for the first time in 2018/2019. in the season of the year. In the men’s race, instead of the 20 kilometer course, five kilometers less are measured, while the women’s race is 12.5 kilometers instead of 15 kilometers. For each shooting error, biathletes receive a penalty of 45 seconds instead of one minute, which is added to the result.
The mixed pairs and mixed relay will take place on Saturday, while on Sunday the stage will end with a distance race with a joint start.
From February 7 to 18, the world championship will take place in the Czech city of Nove Mesto, and the next stage of the World Cup will take place in Oslo at the turn of February and March.
There are nine rounds in the World Cup series this season, with the crystal balls handed out in mid-March at Canada’s Kenmore circuit. The European Masters will take place from 21 to 28 January on the Slovakian Osrbl track.
