Renowned actor, playwright and director Mamunur Rashid’s birthday comes in four consecutive years. Because he was born on leap year (February 29). Fans of the popular dramatist wait for his birthday.

To color this long awaited birthday in the colors of Harar, a festival, anand milanmela has been organized. On the occasion of Mamunur Rashid’s birthday, a three-day special festival has been organized by his own theater group ‘Aranyak’.

The festival will include staging of plays written and directed by Mamunur Rashid, music, dance, seminars, exhibitions, book unveiling, reception and theater chat. The event will be held from February 29 to March 2 at Shilpakala Academy, Channel I premises and Mahila Samiti.

Janmotsav will start on the morning of February 29. On that day, the cover of a book written on Mamunur Rashid will be unveiled. Various people related to stage, television and film have written about him in this book. In the afternoon, the first day’s program will end with various performances at the National Theater of Shilpakala Academy.

There will be a special seminar with Mamunur Rashid in the seminar room of Shilpakala Academy at 10 am on the second day. A documentary about him will be shown on the initiative of Shilpakala Academy. In the afternoon, there will be two performances of the play ‘Radhang’ written and directed by Mamunur Rashid at the Neelima Ibrahim Auditorium of the Women’s Association. Chanchal Chowdhury, AK M Hasan and senior actors of Aranyak Natyadal will perform.

Another seminar will be held on the third day on March 2 at 10 am under the initiative of Actors Equity. It will feature a documentary on him, produced by Sujat Shimul, along with the reading of the essay. The three-day event will end with the staging of the play ‘Kahe Facebook’ written and directed by Mamunur Rashid at the Women’s Association in the afternoon.

Mamunur Rashid was born in 1948 in Matulalay in Kalihati, Tangail. He got involved with stage plays from his student days. Joined Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Great War of Liberation. After the independence of the country, he returned to the country and formed the ‘Aranyak’ theater troupe.

Mamunur Rashid played an important role in the stage movement of post-independence Bangladesh. Notable stage plays written by him are ‘Ora Kadam Ali’, ‘Gandharva Nagri’, ‘Che’s Cycle’, ‘Sankranti’, ‘Rarang’, ‘Target Platoon’, ‘Iblish’ etc. He also wrote many dramas for TV. Mamunur Rashid is still acting regularly on stage, TV and films.
