Birdy performs at the Festival de Wiltz

Since its founding in 1953, the Wiltz Festival has been considered the oldest festival in Luxembourg. After a break last year, visitors can expect a variety of cultural experiences at this year’s Festival de Wiltz. The program from June 29th to July 19th includes a Luxembourg operetta, “An der Schwemm”, or a Nouveau Cirque group from West Africa. A highlight of the festival is the performance of British pop star Birdy.

Due to the festival’s long existence, the organizers are committed to continually developing new cultural formats to promote diversity. The festival’s cultural management was therefore also involved in the production of the operetta “An der Schwemm”.

The operetta will be performed on June 29, the first day of the festival. The Luxembourgish composer Lou Koster arranged the piece in the 1920s with a libretto by Batty Weber. The result is a work that was created in collaboration with the Escher Theater. The Wiltz Amphitheater will provide an excellent backdrop for the Orchester de Chambre du Luxembourg and the Choeur de l’INECC Luxembourg.

A collective of circus artists will provide acrobatic performances. The company Circus Baobab presents its captivating Nouveau Cirque spectacle on June 30th.

Another artist who will perform at the festival is Alfonso Losa from Madrid. He is a leading representative of the Madrid flamenco dance school. With his ensemble of dance, singing and guitar, he will captivate the audience with his flamenco performance “Espacio Creativo” on July 5th.

Highlight of the festival

A highlight of this year’s line-up is the British singer and songwriter Birdy. She will perform her new album “Portraits”, released in 2023, on July 15th. The album has been streamed over 21 million times worldwide. Birdy began writing songs in her childhood and thrilled the music world with her voice. The pop star achieved international breakthrough with “People Help The People”.

Altin Gün from Amsterdam impresses with a mixture of psychedelic rock, deep funk and Turkish folk music. The fusion artists are known for their hypnotic live performances and have played on stages around the world. The band will perform on July 19th.

Further names and program items will be announced in the next few weeks. All further information and tickets for the festival are available here www.festivaldewiltz.lu.

New festival

A new festival is also trying to gain a foothold in Wiltz this summer. The Biggi Festival is taking place in the northern community for the first time. The mixed genre festival gets underway on August 31st and September 1st at the Paradiso grounds in Wiltz. Only Luxembourgish artists perform here, including rapper Maz with his solo show Univerze. In addition to a campsite, the festival offers even more comfortable accommodation options. All information, tickets and the complete festival line-up are available via the Instagram page the event.
