The Malagasy tennis team finished 7th in the general ranking among the 12 countries competing at the Billie Jean King Cup tournament, held in Nairobi, Kenya. At least, the Akomba have ensured the essential: remaining in group III. Teddy Andrianjafitrimo’s protégés recorded three victories which allowed them to take shelter. During the fifth day of this Saturday counting for the ranking matches, the Malagasy team won with a score of 2 to 1 against the Tunisians. In the singles match, Miotisoa Rasendra won against Ranim Rassil by 6/7 6/4 7/6. However, Mialy Ranaivo was humiliated in front of Chiraz Bechri with a score of 6/2, 4/6, 2/6. In the decisive doubles, the duo Mialy Ranaivo and Tsantaniony Iariniaina won against Nadine Hamrouni and Lamis Houas in straight sets. This historic victory marks the first time Madagascar has beaten Tunisia. As a reminder, the Akomba failed to enter the competition by recording two successive defeats. The first victory was won against the Namibian team. Madagascar managed to remain in group III for the 2025 season after finishing in 7e place, with these last 2 victories against Ghana and Tunisia. South Africa wins promotion to Group II for 2025 by taking 1st place. Mauritius, for its part, is relegated to group IV. Curtain on this tournament which was marked by an encouraging performance from the Akomba, made up of four players.
