JAKARTA – Senior United Development Party (PPP) politician Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi expressed concern over the PPP’s failure to qualify for the DPR in the 2024 elections. According to him, this is a big disaster for all cadres of the party bearing the Kaaba symbol.

“In my opinion, this is a big disaster for all PPP cadres and sympathizers who have always been loyal and steadfast (consistent) in giving trust to PPP as a forum for struggle and channeling their political aspirations,” said Zainut in his statement quoted on Sunday (16/6/2024) .

He considered that the decline in the PPP vote was a price that had to be paid by the party’s leaders and elites who had no sensitivity to public feelings. This, he said, was reflected in his inability to manage internal party conflicts well.

Even some of the elite are thought to have a penchant for openly displaying conflict in public. “It is natural for the public to give punishment by not voting for PPP in the 2024 elections, because they are fed up with seeing a party that carries religious jargon but whose hobbies often conflict,” he said.

As a PPP senior, Zainut gave an appeal to PPP leaders, elites and cadres at all levels. First, don’t blame each other and look for the culprit behind the PPP’s decline, let alone carrying out destructive actions that could actually damage the PPP’s image.

“Second, immediately consolidate the organization, strengthen ties, build brotherhood to raise the morale of PPP cadres and sympathizers at the grassroots level,” he said.

Third, reflect deeply on this disaster so that we can find the right solution to rebuild PPP in the future. Fourth, political elites should not make controversial statements, which could invite unproductive polemics.

Fifth, to the PPP leadership and elites to immediately apologize openly to the public as a form of moral responsibility for the PPP not passing the parliamentary threshold for the 2024 elections.

“It would be wiser if the apology was accompanied by a statement that the party’s highest elite resigned from their positions sincerely and freely,” he concluded.
