US President Joe Biden has assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that $60 billion in military aid is on its way to Kiev. The bill has yet to receive final approval from Congress. But Biden told Zelensky he was hopeful the bill would pass. British media reported the news.
Zelensky called for the urgent delivery of more weapons to Ukraine to avoid a catastrophic situation in Europe.
The US has blamed a lack of congressional support for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the eastern town of Avdivka. The capture of Avdivka is Russia’s most significant success in Ukraine since the capture of Bakhmut in May last year.
After a phone call with Zelensky on Saturday, Biden told reporters that the people of Ukraine fought with great courage and heroism. They fought with all their might. But the idea that they are running out of ammunition, that we will not cooperate is very unrealistic.
“I don’t think that’s ethical,” Biden said. It is against all our values as a country. I will continue to fight until we provide them with the ammunition they need and the ability to defend themselves.
The Ukrainian president also urged US lawmakers to approve $60 billion in aid. “I am proud to count on the full support of the US President,” he wrote in a telegram.
During his visit to Germany, he urged Ukraine to quickly supply more weapons to avoid a catastrophic situation in Europe.
