The story about Sergei Bezrukov’s speech, which had not bothered anyone for almost four months, suddenly surfaced on social networks and turned into a big discussion in Uzbekistan. Users were hooked by a fragment of a press conference, where the actor jokingly recounted an episode of his arrival in Tashkent and tried to reproduce the accent of a local resident, Liter.kz reports.
The actor was hit with a wave of accusations of disrespect for the Uzbek people.
What really happened
On press conferences Bezrukov recalled a trip to the Tashkent cemetery where Tatyana Yesenina, the daughter of Sergei Yesenin, was buried.
He said that he came there at night with a bouquet that he was given at the performance, but the gates were closed. Then he turned to a cemetery employee. The man recognized the actor from his role in “The Brigade” and, according to Bezrukov, uttered only one word – “White”.
While retelling the story, the actor tried to convey the employee’s manner of speech. This is what caused a wave of criticism: on social networks they said that imitation of an accent “looks like ridicule.”
Why was the reaction so harsh?
As noted podrobno.uzthe impetus for mass discussion was the publication of the rector of the University of Journalism of Uzbekistan, Sherzodkhon Kudrathodzhi. The tone of his text was emotional and sometimes harsh.
He criticized:
- a visit to the cemetery at night – in Eastern traditions this is not done;
- the fact that the actor came with gifts of flowers, and did not buy new ones;
- a remark that the employee was “sleeping” and “did not speak Russian”;
- the use of the word “rahmet” instead of “rahmat”, which the rector called “a confusion of countries.”
Kudrathoja accused Bezrukov of “putting himself above the local residents” and linked this to “cultural stereotypes that live in Russian jokes.”
His post instantly went viral – part of the audience supported it, while others considered the text an excess and an attempt to stir up a scandal from scratch.
Other positions: was it a joke?
Ex-adviser to the Minister of Ecology Rasul Kusherbaev also commented on the situation. He said that the actor’s delivery could indeed be perceived as “mashara qilish” – making fun of the accent.
At the same time, the blogger noted: Bezrukov himself in an interview repeatedly emphasized the hospitality and goodwill of the Uzbek people, and this makes the story ambiguous and far from a direct insult.
How Bezrukov reacted
The actor in his social networks replied that he did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings. He emphasized that he spoke about the situation with warmth and respect, and that the imitation of the accent was part of a humorous story and not an attempt to humiliate anyone.
According to Bezrukov, his trip to Uzbekistan left the best impressions.
