Berlin attributed information leak to “individual error”

According to German diplomacy, one of the country’s Armed Forces officers participated in a meeting remotely through an “unauthorized call”.

At a press conference, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) communication system is reliable and added that the allies’ trust in Germany “remains intact”.

An audio recording of a meeting between high-ranking German officers was published on Russian social media last Friday (01.03).

On Saturday (02.03), Berlin confirmed that the recording was authentic and that it had been intercepted. In the sound recording, participants discuss the possibility of supplying Kiev with German-made Taurus long-range missiles.

“Highly embarrassing conversation for Berlin”
On Monday (04/03), the Kremlin reiterated the accusation of “direct Western involvement” in Ukraine, following the publication of exchanges of messages between German officials about the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said information exchanged on social media, including a recording, shows “once again the direct involvement of the West in the conflict.”

“The recording shows that, within the Bundeswehr, there are detailed and concrete discussions about plans to be carried out against Russian territory,” added Peskov.

The France-Presse agency wrote on Monday (04.03) that “the conversation is highly embarrassing” for Germany, since Berlin – officially – refuses to deliver Taurus missiles to Kiev, citing the risk of worsening the conflict.
