To celebrate the 20 years of the Cultural Extension of the Andrés Bello University and the UNAB Camerata, a special 2024 Season has been prepared that will begin with the “Beethoven Festival” concert, by the UNAB Camerata, by maestro Santiago Meza, who directs this group since its inception. This activity will take place at Campus Casona de Las Condes in a concert where the soloist Belle Ting will also perform.
Belle Ting (Canada-Taiwan) is a noted violinist who performs regularly with orchestras such as the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, the Polish Baltic Philharmonic of Gdansk, and the Moscow State Philharmonic. , among other. She has also performed on various stages under the direction of directors such as Eiji Oue, Lan Shui, Jahja Ling, Gabor Kali, Gernot Schmalfuss and Michael Stern.
According to the German newspaper Der Neue Merker, she is recognized for being a “versatile artist who feels equally comfortable interpreting the works of Mozart, Beethoven and Viennese classicism”, as well as performing a wide repertoire of more than twenty romantic and modern concertos, being described as an exponent of “beautiful interpretation, with impeccable style.”
The above has earned him top prizes in several international competitions, such as the International Brahms Competition, the International Khachaturian Competition, the International Isaac Stern Competition and the International Cooper Competition. Among the festivals at which he has performed are the Verbier Festival, the Festival Musique de Chambre en Normandie, and the Stavanger and Kirishima festivals.
“This will be my first time in Chile and I am excited to share this incredible concert with the public. I am also eager to collaborate with maestro Santiago Meza and the UNAB Camerata,” said the violinist.
Regarding the repertoire, he noted that “Beethoven’s Concerto is a piece indescribably beautiful in its humanity and it can be said that it is a piece in which the virtuoso elements never dominate the message of the music itself. The second movement is one of the most beautiful in the entire repertoire, it is incredibly sincere and redemptive, in some parts, almost like a religious hymn.”
From decades of music
For 20 years, the Camerata of the Andrés Bello University has been a relevant actor in cultural matters in the country. It is made up of more than 20 professional musicians under the direction of maestro Santiago Meza and they perform concerts throughout Chile.
Regarding his work within the Camerata, the director comments that it has been, since its beginnings, linked to education, “I set out from the first concert to make comments about the works to be performed and thus bring the public closer to the great composers.” of classical music.
Another feature was to be a window, so that young artists, from anywhere in the world, could show their talent, a situation that continues to this day.”
Regarding the concert, he commented that it has “a nice program, it will be a good way to celebrate the 20 years of the Camerata UNAB. For me, as founder and principal director of the UNAB Camerata, it has been a permanent challenge to maintain a high level of excellence in the presentations and I believe that the public recognizes this, due to their massive attendance at our concerts.”
