Become an inspiration, Anthony Joshua: Mike Tyson Boxing Encyclopedia

JAKARTA – British boxer Anthony Joshua calls Mike Tyson his inspiration. This two-time unified world heavyweight champion idolizes the former undisputed world champion because he is still one of the most famous men in the world.

“I like Mike Tyson because he exemplifies discipline. He became a boxing encyclopedia, he studied this sport and he became one of the greatest heavyweight champions, also the youngest heavyweight champion ever,” said AJ, Joshua’s nickname in the Behind the BOSS podcast as reported by Talksport, Tuesday (18/6/2024).

Even though Tyson’s track record outside the ring is quite dark, AJ makes sure he only imitates positive things. “As a boxing inspiration, you just have to look at them for what they do in the boxing ring. I don’t support many people for what they do in their personal lives,” said the 34 year old man.

AJ was also humbled by his abilities compared to Mike Tyson. However, he promised to imitate his idol’s career path and training strategy.

“I realized that if he could do it – I’m not going to say I could be as good as him – but if there was a blueprint, get up early, go to bed early, train hard, believe in yourself, be a beast of a fighter, then could have a chance to succeed ,” said the winner of 28 medals from a total of 31 games.

This Olympic champion wants to apply that mentality. Even Tyson is now back in the boxing ring and will compete as a professional heavyweight boxer at the same time as AJ.

However, this is expected to be a one-off fight as he will take on Jake Paul on November 15. Meanwhile, AJ will duel again on September 21 with Daniel Dubois.
