The news came after the defeat this Wednesday of his closest followers in the ranking heading to Paris, during the eliminatory tournament of the elite phase 16 in Ostrava, Czech Republic, of the World Pro Tour.
A note from the sports newspaper JIT stated that the Austrians Julian Hörl and Alexander Horst, and the Chileans Marcos and Esteban Grimalt were eliminated by the Dutch León Luini and Christian Varenhorts, who won with scores of 2-0 and 2-1, in that order.
In this way, the two couples aspiring for the Olympic ticket could not advance to the main draw in Ostrava, the last competition in the qualifying process for the Olympics.
Although Monday, June 10 will be the official confirmation, the Cubans can no longer be reached or surpassed in the ranking that closes next Sunday in Ostrava.
Alayo and Díaz reached 7,800 points since they won the silver medal in the Stare Jablonki Challenge, in Poland, and with the results of their followers in Ostrava they placed themselves in 17th place in the rankings.
The Antilleans, who were coming off a streak of five consecutive victories, only lost in the final match against the world champions of Tlaxcala 2023, the Czechs Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner, with a score of 1-2 (17-21, 21-17 , 11-15).
In 2024, Alayo and Díaz have played 33 games and have won 23 of them, with an effectiveness of 67.7%. They managed to win in eight of the 13 tie breaks they have played. In seven tournaments, they accumulate 4760 points, being the third highest accumulators in the world.
