In an exclusive interview with People, the 51-year-old arrives with a disheartening message: She has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Eggert says she received the diagnosis just before Christmas and contacted her doctor about two months earlier because she had gained more than eleven kilograms and had terrible pain in her left breast. She herself suspected menopause.

– It was throbbing and very painful. The doctor told me I needed to get checked straight away, but everything was booked up, so I had to wait until the end of October, says the 51-year-old.

The answer came quickly and suddenly she was suffering from cancer.

– Dilyn is an adult, but I have a 12-year-old at home for whom I am the only caregiver. I have no family. I have nothing. She immediately made me understand that it is not possible to give up on this. It’s something I have to deal with. This is something I need to defeat. She needs me more than anything or anyone else.
