Bayern’s homepage announced that they have appointed Vincent Kompany as the club’s new head coach, signing a contract until 2027.
At the same time as Barcelona signed an official contract with Hansi Flick, Bayern Munich also announced the appointment of Vincent Kompany as head coach.
The Belgian coach’s contract with Bayern has a term of 3 years, lasting until 2027. The specific salary is not disclosed. To get Kompany’s services, Bayern had to pay Burnley 12 million euros in contract compensation.
Kompany has emerged as Bayern’s top target for the head coach position after they failed to reach an agreement with Thomas Tuchel to convince him to stay. Now, the Gray Tigers can start preparing for the new season with Kompany at the helm.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge at Bayern. It’s an honor to work for this club. As a coach, you have to show your personality: I like to have the ball, to be creative, but We also have to be fierce and brave on the field,’ Kompany said after the contract signing ceremony.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said: “All of us at the club agree that Vincent Kompany is the right man for Bayern, and we look forward to working with him. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have worked tirelessly and meticulously to find a coach who will lead Bayern to success, continuing to develop the club with new ideas. Vincent Kompany represents solidarity and team spirit we need”.
After retiring as captain of Man City and one of the most successful players in Premier League history, Kompany began his coaching career in 2020 at his hometown club Anderlecht. After that, the former Belgian midfielder returned to England to lead Burnley, bringing the club to promotion with the Championship championship in the 2022/23 season.
Although unable to prevent Burnley from being relegated from the Premier League this season, Kompany is still highly appreciated for his attack-oriented playing style.
The Belgian strategist’s main task next season will be to bring Bayern Munich back to the top of German football. Bayern certainly faces many difficulties when it ends the 2023/24 season 18 points behind unbeaten champions Leverkusen.
However, the appointment of Vincent Kompany caused many concerns. The Belgian coach is only 38 years old and has no experience managing a big team.
