The federal election within the Federation will be held at the beginning of 2026.
A page could soon turn to the Malagasy basketball federation. The current president, Jean-Michel Ramaroson, who announced in 2021 that his fourth mandate would be the last, has not yet spoken on a possible change of decision. An official press release from the Federation, dated September 2, unveiled the electoral calendar which will lead to the appointment of a new management team in early 2026. The race was officially launched.
The instances renewal process will take place in three separate phases. From September to October 2025, it will be up to clubs and sections to open the ball, followed by regional leagues from November to December 2025, before ending in January-February 2026 with the election at the Federation level (FMBB). The presidents of the newly elected leagues will form the electoral college which will designate the successor of Jean-Michel Ramaroson and his executive committee.
The announcement of this calendar marks concretely the end of a long presidency. On December 10, 2021, during his re-election for a fourth term, Jean-Michel Ramaroson had been clear: “It will be my last mandate, in consultation with international bodies and especially with solicitation nationally”.
His assessment is rich in several notable successes, including the successful organization of continental competitions such as the different editions of young and senior Afrobasket, an increased presence of Madagascar on the international scene and, more recently, the excellent performances of Ankoay, both in 5 × 5 and 3 × 3. Its election as vice-president of FIBA Africa has also reinforced the position of the Big Island in the governing bodies of continental basketball.
The next president will inherit a booming federation, but will have to take up major challenges.
