The price adjustment of subscription television and mobile telephony packages of up to 25%, recently authorized by the Angolan Institute of Communications (INACOM), exempts payment of the basic package, to safeguard minimum services for citizens with less purchasing power.
According to INACOM, the current price of the basic package, consisting of 10 channels, with emphasis on channels 1 and 2 of TPA and TV Zimbo, will remain at 2,200 kwanzas.
In a note, the regulatory body for this market states that this measure safeguards the interests of operators, customers and the provision of services with the desired quality.
According to the instruction published in the Official Gazette II Series, No. 141, of 25 July, INACOM authorises the adjustment of the public sale prices of subscription television packages and establishes the percentage limit for this update.
The same document also establishes the percentage of adjustment to public sales prices for electronic communications services in the mobile telephony segments, as well as the composition and price of the basic tariff as a support measure for low-income consumers.
The instruction also requires the composition of the basic subscription television package, the price and the terms of its disclosure to the public, as well as the reporting to INACOM of statistical indicators on this package.
The authorization to adjust these services is justified by the negative impact of inflation and exchange rate variations on operating costs and the maintenance of operators’ networks.
After this measure, operators will submit the adjustment of their respective packages to INACON to be reanalyzed and, consequently, approved.
After this process, it was announced that, within a period of 30 days, operators must provide clarifications to customers on how the services will operate from now on, with the adjustments made.
The Angolan Institute of Communications, under the supervision of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, has the mission of advising and representing the Executive, through the regulation, supervision and inspection of the electronic communications sector and postal services, ensuring the quality of service in an environment of healthy competition.
