Kenny as a controversial tax bill passedYoung people are protesting. Kenyan-British activist Auma Obama, half-sister of former US President Barack Obama, joined thousands of protesters outside Parliament in Nairobi. The police fired tear gas on him. He was shown in this condition in an interview with the American media CNN. British news agency Reuters reported this news in a report.
Protesters vandalized and set fire to part of Kenya’s parliament on Tuesday. The police fired tear gas inside the parliament to quell them. When they failed to bring the protest under control, they were forced to shoot. At least 10 protesters were killed and more than half a hundred were injured.
A CNN reporter took Auma Obama aside from the conflict between the protesters and the police. Auma asked why he was there.
Kashte Kashte Auma replied, ‘I’m here because—look what’s happening. Kenyan youth are protesting for their rights. They are protesting with flags and banners.’ At the same time, he said, “I can’t see anything anymore. Tear gas has been fired at us.”
Behind Auma stood a man holding a signboard. It read, ‘Colonialism never ended in Kenya.’ Another shouted, ‘This country is ours. This nation is ours.’
Earlier, Obama posted a picture of herself on Twitter in solidarity with the protests.
Reuters did not immediately receive a call to former US President Barack Obama’s office to inquire about the ongoing violence in Kenya and Auma’s involvement in it.
