Bangladesh Bank got two new deputy governors – 2024-02-29 14:05:44

Md has been appointed as Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank. Khurshid Alam and Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman. They have been appointed on contractual basis against two vacant posts.

On Wednesday (February 28), two separate orders have been issued in this regard from the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance.

Khurshid Alam is currently working as Executive Director-1 of Bangladesh Bank.

Dr. Habibur Rahman is Chief Economist of Bangladesh Bank. Both voluntarily retired from regular service and were appointed to the contractual post of Deputy Governor.

According to the order of the financial institutions department, Bangladesh Bank Executive Director (Grade-1) Md. Khurshid Alam has been offered contractual appointment for three years from the date of his joining as Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank subject to voluntary retirement from his present post and suspension of post-retirement leave (PRL).

Khurshid Alam did his post-graduation and MBA from the Faculty of Commerce, University of Dhaka. He joined Bangladesh Bank in 1988 as Assistant Director. Khurshid Alam Bank Banking Regulations and Policy Department, Bank Inspection Department, Financial Institutions and Markets Department, Agricultural Credit Department, Payment Systems Department, Department of Currency Management, Department of Off-Site Supervision, SME and Special Programs Department, Secretary Department are important in various departments. Performed duties.

On the other hand, Habibur Rahman is currently working as the Chief Economist of Bangladesh Bank. Born in Khiratala village of Vijaynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria. He graduated with First Class Bachelors (Honours) and Masters in Economics from Jahangirnagar University (JABI). Dr. Rahman joined the research department of Bangladesh Bank in 1990 as Assistant Director. Before joining Bangladesh Bank, he did higher training at Bangladesh Development Research Institute. Later, he obtained Masters and PhD degrees in Applied Economics from Eastern and Western Michigan University, USA, respectively, under the scholarship of United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Habibur Rahman worked in Research Department, Monetary Management and Technical Unit (now Monetary Policy Department) of Bangladesh Bank. Later he was engaged as Senior Research Economist in Bangladesh Bank’s Policy Analysis Unit under World Bank’s Capacity Building Project. He served as Deputy General Manager at Bangladesh Bank Training Academy and lastly as General Manager at the Policy Support Wing of the Governor’s Secretariat.

Incidentally, on February 2, AKM Sajedur Rahman Khan and on February 23, Abu Farah Md. Nasser’s contract expired as Deputy Governor. Then these two posts became vacant. Abu Farah Md. Nacher is being appointed as a policy advisor for the next one year.
