The Delhi High Court has banned the unauthorized use of the Bollywood star’s images, voice and name in an order on the plea of ​​actor Amitabh Bachchan.

According to Indian media, the High Court’s decision on Friday directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and telecom companies to remove such content.

Amitabh Bachchan had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to stop the unauthorized use of his name, voice and images, in which he also sought an injunction against publishers, T-shirt vendors and other businesses. .

According to NDTV, senior advocate Harish Salve, who appeared in court on behalf of Amitabh Bachchan, argued: ‘Someone is making a T-shirt with his picture on it. Someone is selling their poster. Someone has gone and registered the domain name, that’s why we’re here.’

The Delhi High Court said in the judgment that Amitabh Bachchan is a well-known personality, and appears in various advertisements, and is concerned that the defendants are using his celebrity to promote products and services without permission.

The Delhi High Court recognized the actor’s publicity rights as a celebrity and said they were being violated. The court noted that if Amitabh Bachchan is not protected, he is likely to suffer irreparable harm and certain activities may bring him into disrepute.

Justice Naveen Chawla said: ‘There is no doubt that Amitabh Bachchan is a well-known personality and if relief is not granted at this juncture, he may suffer irreparable loss and infamy.’

The court directed the telecom authorities to take action to remove websites that are providing content infringing Amitabh Bachchan’s rights.
