Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, ‘Survivor of 17 Attacks’

Former Caretaker Interior Minister and leader of Pakistan People’s Party Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has been elected Chief Minister of Balochistan on Friday.

As far as Mir Sarfraz Bugti is concerned, he belongs to a political family and has been part of the caretaker government after becoming a senator.

Sarfraz Bugti was born in 1981 to Mir Ghulam Kadirmusuri Bugti, a prominent tribal political leader of the Bugti nation. Mir Sarfaraz Bugti completed his education from Lawrence College, Murree.

His father Mir Ghulam Qadir Musuri Bugti (deceased) had formally joined the People’s Party in 1988.

Mir Ghulam Qadir Masuri (deceased) continued his political struggle from the platform of the People’s Party all his life and was also criticized for his association with the People’s Party during the Musharraf era.

While his son Mir Sarfraz Bugti was elected as a member of the Balochistan Assembly for the first time in 2013.

Sarfraz Bugti served as Interior Minister in the governments of former Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch and Nawab Sanaullah Zehri.

As the provincial interior minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti took many steps to establish peace and harmony, but during his tenure, tragic incidents including the Mastung tragedy took place.

He equipped the Levies Force on modern lines and always denied the anti-Pakistan agenda and raised the flag of rebellion against the elements involved.

Mir Sarfraz Bugti was attacked 17 times by the evil elements.

During the attacks of the enemies of peace, many of Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s longtime associates and relatives sacrificed their lives.

In the 2018 general elections, Mir Sarfaraz Bagti participated but failed in the elections.

He was elected Senator in 2018 and represented Balochistan in the Senate. Elected senator again in 2021 and became part of upper house.

However, he offered his services as the federal interior minister in the supervisory setup in 2023.

In the 2024 elections, he was elected Member of Balochistan Assembly with a huge majority on the platform of Pakistan People’s Party and now he has occupied the post of Chief Minister.
