The court has granted bail to Mamunul Haque, Joint Secretary General of the Defunct Committee of Hefazet Islam in the rape case of Narayanganj’s Sonargaon police station.
Narayanganj Women and Child Torture Suppression Tribunal Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamal’s court granted the bail on Thursday (April 4) afternoon.
On this day, when advocate AKM Omar Farooq Nayan and other lawyers heard the bail of Mamunul Haque on behalf of the accused, the court granted bail. However, Mamunul Haque was absent from the court during the bail hearing.
In this regard, Advocate AKM Omar Farooq told Nayan Jago News, “We have presented arguments in favor of bail.” I have presented the report of the medical board. In the report, the plaintiff said that he had voluntarily entered into sexual intercourse. My marriage relationship with Mamunul Haque is ongoing.
Besides, the plaintiff’s son testified in court that his mother was married to Mamunul Haque. The court granted bail after considering our issues.
Meanwhile, witnesses and interrogation in the rape case against Mamunul Haque is ongoing. On March 19, Narayanganj Women and Child Suppression Tribunal Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamal’s court investigated Inspector SM Shafiqul Islam in the third round of interrogation in the case. At the end of the cross-examination, the lawyers of the accused asked for one more day for the cross-examination, and the court fixed the next cross-examination date on April 23.
On April 3, 2021, Mamunul Haque was staying with a woman at Royal Resort in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. At that time the local Awami League leaders and activists came and surrounded him. Later, the activists and supporters of the local Hefazat came and ransacked the resort and took him away. Mamunul Haque was staying at Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasah in Mohammadpur since the incident. At that time, the police kept him under surveillance.
Then on April 18, 2021, Mamunul was arrested from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in Mohammadpur. Later, the woman filed a rape case against Mamunul Haque at Sonargaon police station on April 30. However, Mamunul Haque has been claiming that woman as his second wife.
