Badr and Ubay: “Spontaneity” is the basis of success

Over the past few months, the young Amazigh artist Badr Ouabi has gained wide fame, which has contributed to the videos of his artistic evenings and concerts topping social media platforms, coinciding with the start of the summer season.

Badr Ouabi said in a statement to Hespress that his artistic beginnings, like all artists, were through the gateway of music, which he learned and the foundations of mixing the Amazigh heritage and quotations of oriental and Moroccan folk melodies, adding that this special mixture is what impressed people and attracted them to his art, hoping that it would always be light on the hearts.

He stated that the great turnout that his evenings have become known for is due to the people’s love for him, because he is “a man of the people, distinguished by his spontaneity and modesty, who presents his talent and shares his passion with the audience, who are the basis of success and the reason for facilitating everything.”

The spokesman stressed that “there is no competition between the Amazigh song and the modern Moroccan song, because this remains a matter of musical styles and popular heritage,” explaining that “Amazigh art has its standards, and the modern song also has its own category in Moroccan music.”

Regarding the incident of him being taken out of an artistic evening with his band, accompanied by gendarmes, Badr Ouabi explained that the matter was not related to any problem as was promoted, but rather what happened was that the Royal Gendarmerie intervened to “ensure safety” for them during a concert in the city of Fez, adding that “the people’s love and desire to take souvenir photos caused overcrowding and would have caused chaos, so the security intervened and there was no negative problem.”

The Amazigh artist pointed out that using female dancers, “Sheikhats,” falls within the framework of the Amazigh heritage style that he presents, adding that they “accompany the singing groups in their concerts because one hand cannot clap, so we work as one team.”
