
This weekend in the town of Badillo, municipality of Valledupar, the Ethnocultural Rice Festival will be held, an event that celebrates one of the most consumed cereals in the region and the artistic and traditional manifestations that strengthen local identity.
This 29th version pays tribute to René de Jesús Gutiérrez, Angélica Gutiérrez and Javier Acosta, who, with dedication and commitment, have contributed to keeping traditions alive and promoting development, culture and the pride of being badilleros.
During the day, attendees will enjoy a great program that includes gastronomic samples with rice as the protagonist, with culinary competitions and cultural activities designed for the whole family.
The development of this cultural activity begins on Saturday, September 13, from 10:00 am, in the main square, Gregorio Zabaleta platform, with competitions by: amateur accordion players, Canción Inédita, Piqueria and a presentation with dance groups by Afro towns. That night the musical evening will be delivered by Reinaldo ‘Chuto’ Díaz, Marciano Martínez, Robert Oñate, Luifer Mercado and Ernesto Mendoza.
For Sunday the 14th, the closing of the Ethnocultural Rice Festival begins at 10:00 am with the second round of the contests in dispute and at noon there will be the typical cultural contests, including Best Rice Dish, Most Eater of Rice, Best Spike of Rice, Best Pilandera de Arroz, as well as the most popular and chiming ‘El perrero’.
The artists for the grand final night will be Juan Jaime Peñaranda, the composer Rafael Manjarrez and the vallenato king 2025, Iván Zuleta.
This festival not only seeks to highlight this product as the main protagonist in this region, but also its value in the economy and contribution to Vallenato cuisine.
The municipal mayor, Ernesto Orozco Durán highlighted: “Badillo is one of our flagship districts in the cultivation of rice, they have our support through the Culture Office because these types of spaces are essential to keep our traditions alive and for the community to keep its history alive. The Ethnocultural Rice Festival is an opportunity to show the country the cultural wealth that is born in our land.”
