Bad breath is embarrassing and annoying. What should I do in case of bad breath? Is bad breath related to physical health? Is bad breath an organ disease? Doctors remind us that bad breath is sometimes related to body functions. One patient noticed that her breath had a peculiar odor and upon examination found that her hepatitis B index value was extremely high.
Bad breath can be related to body functions
Dr. Chen Rongjian, CEO of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center of Min Sing General Hospital, shared a case before the outbreak. At that time, some people went to the hospital for medical treatment without wearing masks. There was a man in his sixties who was specially wearing a mask when he came to the doctor. The other person said: “The doctor is sorry because my friends often tell me that my breath is not good. I thought it might be a stomach problem, so I wanted to do a gastroscopy.” After the gastroscopy results came, it turned out that the condition of my stomach was actually good and not serious. As for the degree of inflammation, it is probably only in the early stage, but this cannot explain why the patient has a strong odor in the mouth.
I had a sour taste in my mouth and discovered that there was something wrong with my liver.
Dr. Chen Rongjian described the smell in the patient’s mouth as not only sour, but also a bit like saltwater chicken left overnight, with a little putrid ammonia. He also pointed out that the smell in the patient’s mouth was really strong. I subsequently inquired about his medical history and learned that the patient was a carrier of hepatitis B in the past. Although he is said to have recovered, the odor in his mouth was strong and his teeth were not in any particular condition. It was recommended that the patient be given a comprehensive examination, then an ultrasound examination was arranged and the liver was found to have “fibrosis”.
Hepatitis B carriers should pay attention to bad breath!
Dr. Chen Rongjian explained that in general, if the treatment of hepatitis B is ideal and stable, the fibrosis will not be as severe. Afterwards, he helped the patient take a liver B index test and the result was 6000-6000. 7000 IU/mL (more than 2000 IU). /mL pay attention). The gastroenterology department needs to prescribe specific drugs for hepatitis B, so Dr. Chen Rongjian first transferred the patient to the gastroenterology department and arranged the time for a follow-up check-up. A month later, the patient’s hepatitis B was slightly under control and the odor in his mouth became lighter. Six months later, the hepatitis B index has dropped to a very low level and the bad breath problem has essentially resolved.
Dr. Chen Rongjian reminded that even if it is just bad breath, don’t be afraid to consult a doctor because you feel embarrassed, so delaying medical treatment and finding the root of the problem as soon as possible can solve the embarrassing problem.
