The RTL reality series Oh oh Cres it permanently influenced the Dutch language. This was stated by editor-in-chief Ton den Boon Fat Van Dale Saturday night on the radio show Follow the place.
According to Den Boon, many erotic abbreviations used in the series and subsequently became nationally known, are still common in the speech of young people, especially after more than ten years.
In Oh oh Cres followed a group of residents of The Hague who went on holiday to the Greek seaside resort of Hersonissos. The reality show on RTL 5 was a great success and attracted one and a half million viewers per episode in the first season. There were three more sequels, in which the festivals were celebrated in Tyrol and Mallorca. The last series was broadcast in 2016.
“Oh oh Cres has become the symbol of a group of people who like to go on affordable holidays and have a lot of fun in the areas of drinking and sex,” Den Boon said.
The term has remained in the language of young people, he notes. Even though the program hasn’t been on television for eight years. “Kids who are currently taking their final exams are still looking for it Oh oh Cres-sensation.”
Teenagers still use the words of Oh Oh Cherso
The linguist finds it particularly surprising that much of the slang used regularly in the program is still alive among teenagers.
Den Boon cited as examples the terms PINO, which stands for “potentially interesting fuck object”, ODOL as an alternative to describe a morning erection and WOKNOK, the female variant of morning erection.
The editor-in-chief of Van Dal he acknowledged that “they are not the highest jargon. But they have permanently entered the colloquial language of young people. Usually these terms eventually disappear again. But it surprises me how persistent these linguistic forms are still present, even in the media.”
The words mentioned are not yet included in the file Van DalDen Boon added.
