The public that gathered at the MX Race Track, in Capulispamba, missed the narrators during the first round of the Provincial Motocross Championship.

Their knowledge of identifying each of the pilots was key to enjoying the event in its 14 categories, on Sunday, March 3.

Inside the track the adrenaline remained at the highest level. Especially when they had to turn counterclockwise on a completely renovated circuit that the drivers liked, but also required their maximum concentration.

Queen category

In the queen of motocross (Mx1 A), ‘Nicky’ Merchán, from Honda, stamped his signature at the top of the podium. The National Championship, which will kick off in Cuenca on March 24, is one of his priorities.

I lacked a little rhythm at the beginning of the race, but it is the first of the year… By the third race we will be in a very good rhythm.

Another priority is to close with the sponsors and intensify their preparation in search of an unprecedented podium for Ecuador in the ‘Enduro Olympics’, from October 14 to 19 in Galicia, Spain.

Andrés Barros finished second despite running a very intelligent race in the first race where he started fourth and entered the finish line first.

The Yamaha rider aspires to go to the Latino MX Open. “God willing and we qualify we will also go to the Nations Championship.”

Andrés Feicán, who was making his debut in the category, suffered an accident in the second race. The Honda driver’s shoulder dislodged and he had to be taken to a hospital.

Latin and World Cup in Argentina

One of the big absentees in the Provincial was Andrés Benenaula, from Kawasaki. ‘Beneno’ has been training for three weeks in the United States with the goal of winning the Latino and World Motocross Championships in the Mx1.

It is perhaps one of the few trophies that remain in his showcase. The driver from Cuenca has three continental titles in Mx2 and two South American titles in Mx1.

The Latin American and World Motocross Championship will be held on March 8 in Argentina. Edgar Benenaula, delegate of the tricolor team, also confirmed the participation of ‘Coyote’ Cordovez in the Mx1; by Pedro ‘Piluko’ Suárez and Ítalo Medina in the Mx2.

Benenaula regretted what happened to Feicán. He assured that, if his injury was confirmed, he would practically leave him out of Latino. The pilot from Cuenca trained to the maximum since December for said international event.
