Moroccan director and producer Nabil Ayouch announced on Friday that his new film “Everybody Loves Toda” has been selected to compete for the Oscars, the most prestigious and prestigious event celebrating filmmakers.
Ayouch revealed that his feature film “Everybody Loves Touda,” which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, will represent Morocco in the initial selection for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category, after it was selected by a committee that held a meeting at the Moroccan Cinema Center and was headed by Tarek Khalmi.
In his new feature film, Ayouch honors the profession of “sheikhat” and the art of “Aita,” by shedding light with his cinematic eye on hidden and unspoken aspects of this field through a touching story of a sheikha who resists society on more than one front to impose herself and guarantee daily sustenance away from the margins.
The Moroccan director, in a previous interview with Hespress, highlighted that the “theme of sheikhas” has been present in his films for a long time, such as “Kheira” and “Ghazia,” adding that he is interested in them because they have played a role in Moroccan societies since ancient times and deserve respect. During the war, they were resisters and fighters and played the role of delivering messages.
He added that this type of strong women has always caught his attention because Moroccan society needs them, noting that even though they are present, he wanted to show them in the film as a way of acknowledging and honoring them and restoring their reputation.
It is worth noting that the feature film “Everyone Loves Toda” is produced by Nabil Ayouch’s “Alayan” company, in partnership with production companies from France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway.
The film stars Nisreen Al-Radi in the lead role, along with Joud Shamhi, Jalila Talmissi, Amin Naji, Abdel Latif Shawqi, Abdel Rahim Al-Menyari, Mounia Lamkimel, and Abdel-Ilah Rashid.
