Avala Cofepris equipment for patients with diabetes

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) authorized an innovative microinfusion pump medical device, designed for the continuous administration of basal insulin for the treatment of patients over seven years of age diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

After a detailed analysis of the file submitted by the holder of the health record, examiners from the Health Authorization Commission (CAS) of said federal agency determined that this medical equipment facilitates the monitoring, follow-up and treatment of people with this type of diabetes by maintaining metabolic control, in order to prevent acute and chronic complications.

They explained that the microinfusion pump has three components: insulin pump, transmitter and sensor; the latter two are placed in the patient’s arms, allowing continuous monitoring of glucose levels with the aim of providing appropriate therapy.

Cofepris reported that, with this recent authorization, millions of patients will have access to a safe, effective and quality device that will facilitate the delivery of insulin, to achieve a better quality of life.

Just on April 4, 2024, the aforementioned Federal Commission reported on the authorization of 153 new health supplies, in the biweekly Therapeutic Expansion Report.

The document broke down the supplies that the health registry received. There were 12 medications, among which a biocomparable parathyroid hormone stood out, indicated in the treatment of osteoporosis.

In addition, registration was issued to eight new clinical trials; among them, one aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of a treatment for acute respiratory syncytial virus infection, and another for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
