Volunteer League leader Rashed Nizam has been arrested by the police in the case of extortion from CNG-run auto-rickshaws in Lakshmipur. Later the court ordered to send him to the district jail.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Police Station Emdadul Haque confirmed the matter to Jago News on Wednesday (June 12) afternoon. Earlier on Tuesday (June 11) morning, the autorickshaw driver Mamun filed a case against Rashed and four people in the Amli Region Chandraganj Court.
Accused Rashed Nizam is the son of Fazlul Karim of village Ratnerkhil of Hajipara Union of Sadar Upazila. Vice President of District Volunteer League and General Secretary of District CNG Operated Auto Rickshaw Workers Union.
According to the statement of the case, the plaintiff Mamun is a CNG autorickshaw driver on the Lakshmipur-Chandraganj road. For the past three months, Rashed and his associates have been collecting Rs 600 per month from the autorickshaw drivers. They also pressured Mamun for subscription. The accused threatened to kill him at the CNG stand in Mandari Bazar on June 7 for refusing to pay the contribution. Later he filed a case against the accused.
The other accused are Sadar Upazila Paschim Mandari Village Md. Ripon, Farooq of West Dighli village and Nurul Alam of Latifpur village of Chandraganj.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Police Station. Emdadul Haque said that the accused Rashed was arrested and handed over to the court. The court ordered him to be sent to prison. Police are working to arrest other accused in the case.
