The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has initiated an investigation against some electricity distributors in El Salvador due to a series of excessive charges that have been reported by several users.
Confirmation of the investigation was made by the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodolfo Delgado, who assured that the companies under investigation are AES El Salvador and its four distributors: CAESS, CLESA, EEO AND DEUSEM, and DELSUR.
“We have initiated an exhaustive investigation against electricity distributors, due to the many complaints from users, with excessive charges that have been reflected in their receipts, in recent days,” Delgado commented through the X social network.
“This day, we enter with the team of prosecutors, who will seize databases of users’ actual consumption and compare them with the information held by the different regulatory institutions of the Government, with the aim of investigating whether Salvadorans have been defrauded.” , he added.
The official also explained that the Prosecutor’s Office will work to defend the interests of the population, which is why he requested the collaboration of the companies that are under investigation and reiterated the Prosecutor’s Office’s commitment to prevent the population from being harmed for the benefit of a few.
For his part, Jonathan Mata, deputy prosecutor of the Defense of State Interests, provided details about the searches carried out this day in the electricity distributors DELSUR and AES El Salvador.
Yesterday, always on the social network
«We have found excessive charges on electricity bills, which go beyond the increase in household consumption due to the hot season. We identified hundreds of receipts, both from @AESElSalvador and @delsur_energia, with charges that cannot be technically justified. The @FGR_SV has initiated an investigation for aggravated fraud,” Bukele explained.
Delgado assured that a group of prosecutors have already been present at the offices of the distributors under investigation and have begun to seize information such as real consumption databases, which will be thoroughly analyzed.
