Australia scored 241 runs due to Glenn Maxwell’s batting rampage. The result of the match was determined after they scored the highest T20 runs on their own ground! But when the opposition is the West Indies, it is not too much to wish for the unexpected. The Caribbeans fought hard but could not win even though they crossed two hundred. Australia confirmed the series one match earlier by winning the second T20I by 34 runs.
Down to a big target in Adelaide, West Indies are in danger in the power play. They lost four wickets for 62 runs. The fifth wicket fell and one more run was added.
Rovman Powell and Andre Russell took the lead in this batting disaster. Their 47-run stand was broken when Russell’s 16-ball 37 ended the innings. Powell made a pair of 54 runs as the last resistance with Romario Shepherd.
In the end, Jason Holder crossed the team’s score of 200 with an unbeaten 28 off 16 balls. Powell scored the maximum 63 runs. The captain’s innings of 36 balls was decorated with 5 fours and 4 sixes. The visitors stopped at 207 runs for 9 wickets.
Marcus Stoinis took maximum 3 wickets for Australia. Josh Hazlewood and Spencer Johnson got two wickets each.
Earlier, Ajira set the record for the highest runs in the country due to Maxwell’s unimaginable batting rampage at number four.
Maxwell scored his fifth T20 century with 9 fours and 7 sixes from 50 balls. He is joint top with India’s opener Rohit Sharma in the list of highest centuries. Maxwell was unbeaten on 120 runs off 55 balls with 12 fours and 8 sixes. His partnership with Tim David (31*) was an unbeaten 95. The Aussie batsman scored the second highest number of runs batting at positions four and below. Coming down to number six, Belgium’s Shaheriar Butt’s unbeaten 125 against the Czech Republic in 2020 tops the list.
David Warner, the half-century of the first match, scored 22 runs that day. Captain Mitchell Marsh scored 29 off 12 balls.
Maxwell was the man of the match as expected.
