Attempted Murder in Kazakhstan: Suspect Found in Korea

Employees of the General Prosecutor’s Office and Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the assistance of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Korea, extradited a suspect for attempted murder for criminal prosecution, Liter.kz reports with reference to the General Prosecutor’s Office.

In March 2022, in the Sauran district of the Turkestan region, the suspect entered into a verbal conflict with a fellow villager, which escalated into a fight. During the brawl, he stabbed his opponent several times in the chest area. The victim was saved thanks to timely medical assistance.

“After committing the crime, the suspect fled to the territory of the Republic of Korea, where he was detained in June 2024. He is currently placed in a pre-trial detention center in Astana. For committing the incriminated crime, punishment is provided in the form of imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years,” added the prosecutor’s office.

The department also noted that the extradition of the defendant became possible thanks to the existence of an extradition agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea dated November 13, 2003, the developer of which was the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
