Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s security guards were attacked. On Monday (June 10) morning, the miscreants carried out a surprise attack on a national highway in the state. Two policemen were seriously injured in the incident, one of them seriously. News from NDTV.
According to police sources, a group of miscreants suddenly attacked the national highway near T Laijong village, about 26 km from the capital Imphal. They started firing indiscriminately at the chief minister’s security guards. The injured policeman has been identified as Moirangthem Azesh.
Azesh is a resident of Thanga Nagaram Leikai in Bishnupur district. He was reportedly shot in the right shoulder. Soon after the attack, he was rescued and taken to a hospital in Imphal. He is undergoing treatment there.
It is to be noted that after the end of the Lok Sabha elections, new tension spread in Manipur from Thursday (June 6). Clashes between Meitei and Kuki communities have resulted in deaths and displacement in Jiribam district of Manipur.
According to news agency PTI sources, more than 200 people of Meitei group have left the village in the face of attacks by Kuki militants. They have been accommodated in the relief camp of the local Giki Sports Complex.
Suspected Kuki militants have allegedly burnt down many Meiteid houses in Lamtai Khunu, Dibong Khunu, Nunkhal and Begra villages of Jiribam district. Members of the Meitei organization Arambai Tengal have been accused of retaliating against cookies and burning houses.
Although there was no major violence in Jiribam over a year of communal enmity, the situation changed after the Lok Sabha elections. The strangled body of farmer S Sarath Kumar Singh of Jiribam Gulaltal area was recovered from the forest of Faizal Punji on Thursday afternoon. As the Kuki community resides in the area, the agitated crowd protested in front of the police station, accusing Janjatis of the murder.
Chief Minister Biren Singh was scheduled to visit the troubled area on Tuesday. Before that, the chief minister’s security personnel were going to Ziribam district to check the security of that area. On Monday morning, their fleet was attacked.

The incident took place when the bus was returning from the Shiv Khori temple to the base camp of the Vaishno Devi temple. The militants hiding in the forest started firing at the buses of the pilgrims. As the bus driver was shot, the bus lost its balance and fell into the ditch. According to police sources, 10 people have died so far in that incident. Another 33 people were injured.
Two to three militants of Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba are believed to be involved in the attack on the pilgrims’ bus. After Jammu-Kashmir, this time the incident of attack also came to light in Manipur. Manipur became one of the concerns during Modi’s second term. The Meitei and Kuki peoples clashed repeatedly in this northeastern Indian state.
