Atletico Madrid Brush Dortmund, Sebastien Haller Steals Away Goal

Atletico Madrid narrowly won 2-1 against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the quarter-finals Liga Champions 2023/2024 . The winning goals were scored by Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino, while Sebastien Haller contributed one goal for Dortmund.

Playing at Civitas Metropolitano, Thursday (11/4/2024) Atletico appeared dominant as hosts and immediately scored a goal in the fourth minute through De Paul. Although Dortmund tried to respond, their efforts were thwarted by Atletico’s solid defence.

In the 32nd minute, Atletico doubled their lead through Samuel Lino after receiving a pass from Antoine Griezmann . Even though they were behind, Dortmund had difficulty building a meaningful attack.

In the second half, Dortmund tried to increase the pressure, but Atletico remained firm. However, they managed to steal an away goal in the 81st minute through Sebastien Haller after a through ball from Julian Brandt.

Although Dortmund tried hard to find an equalizer, Atletico’s defense and goalkeeper Jan Oblak made it difficult for them to score a second goal. The match ended with a score of 2-1 in favor of Atletico.

This result gives Atletico good capital when they visit Dortmund headquarters in the second meeting. The second leg will take place next Wednesday (17/4/2024).
