At the hypercar level, the Porsche Taycan pre-series prototype reaches new heights

Porsche is developing a high-performance electric Taycan model that posted significantly better times than Tesla’s Model S Plaid in tests at the Nürnbergring circuit.

The pre-production Taycan prototype with test driver Lars Kern at the wheel covered the 20.8km Nurburgring lap in 7:07.55 minutes, beating the Tesla Model S Plaid’s record of 17.681 seconds, bettering the time set by Taycan Turbo S Sport in August 2022 by 26 seconds and only slightly behind the Rimac Nevera hypercar (7:05.298).

Kevin Giek, one of the developers of the model, said that such an achievement brings the Taycan into the family of electric hypercars.

Porsche does not reveal details about the next high-performance model, but experts believe that there was a 1,000 hp three-engine Taycan on the track, which in the production version could be known as the Taycan Turbo GT.
