At least 50 passengers injured left the incident on a Latam company flight that covered the Sydney-Chile route.
Thirteen of these passengers were hospitalized in New Zealand after being severely beaten.
According to the authorities, the LATAM plane registered “a technical incident” that caused strong turbulence, reported the emergency services and the airline company.
Flight LA800 “had a technical incident during the trip that caused strong movement,” the company said in a statement.
